About Do-Right Solar

Company

Do-Right Solar is a sole proprietorship based in Santa Barbara, CA, owner Eric Torbet.  The flagship product of the company is a hand-crafted solar water still of wick design (model SWS-200).  The company opened for business in April 2015, debuting at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival.

Vision

There is no question that solar energy will figure prominently in humanity’s future.  Great strides are being made with photovoltaic (PV) panels and large arrays, but solar energy can be utilized in many more ways than just creating electricity.  In fact, applications that directly tap the heat of solar radiation are inherently more efficient than the conversion into electricity.  Solar ovens, solar dehydrators, passive solar home heating, solar water heating, and solar water distillation are all good examples.  Do-Right Solar intends to focus on these under-utilized applications of solar power, by creating products for the individual or household that are affordable, convenient, and durable, and which help one to lead a more sustainable lifestyle.

Eric Torbet, Owner

Eric Torbet is an experimental physicist by training (Ph.D. astrophysics) with a keen interest in all aspects of sustainable living. In developing new solar devices, he taps into his experience in precision design and his understanding of the underlying physics.

He is a long-time resident of Santa Barbara. He chose to develop a solar water distiller as his first product offering because clean drinking water is the most fundamental of human needs, and everyone should have ready access to it in good times and in bad. A solar distiller provides just such water security to the individual.
